Market brief
Coca-Cola, PayPal, HCA file Q3 results – Market Brief, Oct 27, 2026
Published Oct 27, 2026
Coca-Cola, PayPal, HCA Healthcare and S&P Global filed quarterly results with the SEC, while HSBC shares fell as savers shifted to higher-rate accounts.
Takeaway: A heavy batch of 8-K earnings filings landed before the US open, including Coca-Cola, PayPal, HCA Healthcare, S&P Global, Sherwin-Williams and several utilities. The filings themselves list only that results were released, not the numbers. Separately, HSBC shares dropped as the bank said customers are moving money into higher-rate products, and SoFi's stock rose on its lending results.
Coca-Cola, PayPal and HCA file third-quarter results with the SEC
Coca-Cola, PayPal Holdings and HCA Healthcare each filed an 8-K with the SEC on October 27 under Item 2.02, the section companies use to disclose results of operations and financial condition. HCA's filing also included Regulation FD disclosure and other events. The filings list the disclosure items and attached exhibits; no figures appear in the filing summaries themselves.
Why it matters. These are among the largest consumer, payments and hospital companies to report in this batch, so the detail inside the attached releases may set the tone for how investors read household spending, digital payments volumes and healthcare demand. For context from our own earlier coverage: Coca-Cola's Q2 2026 revenue was $13.4B (+6.7%) with EPS $1.03, PayPal's Q2 2026 revenue was $8.7B (+4.8%) with EPS $1.25, and HCA's Q2 2026 revenue was $20.2B (+8.7%) with EPS $7.62.

S&P Global, IQVIA and Invesco add to the morning's results filings
S&P Global, IQVIA Holdings and Invesco each filed 8-Ks reporting results of operations and financial condition. Invesco filed a second 8-K the same morning disclosing that it entered into a material definitive agreement and created a direct financial obligation, the standard labels for a new contract and new borrowing or similar commitment.
Why it matters. These companies sell data, research services and asset management, so their results can give an early read on how much clients are spending on information and investment products. Invesco's separate filing on a new financial obligation may indicate a financing step, though the filing summary does not describe the terms. Our prior coverage showed S&P Global Q2 2026 revenue of $4.1B (+10.4%) and EPS $4.12, and Invesco Q2 2026 revenue of $1.8B (+20.5%).

HSBC shares fall as customers move cash to higher-rate accounts
MarketWatch reported that shares of HSBC Holdings fell as much as 7% on Tuesday after the bank disclosed that customers are increasingly moving money into products that pay higher interest rates.
Why it matters. When depositors shift cash from low-paying accounts into higher-rate savings products, a bank pays out more interest and keeps less of the spread between what it earns on loans and what it pays on deposits. This is a pressure point other lenders may face too, though the report concerns HSBC specifically.

SoFi stock rises on lending growth and early 2027 guidance
MarketWatch reported that SoFi's stock climbed after the company's lending growth drove an earnings beat, meaning results came in above analyst expectations, and after it issued an early forecast for 2027 that the report described as impressing Wall Street.
Why it matters. Consumer lenders are a window into household borrowing appetite and credit conditions. A lender guiding confidently for the following year may suggest it sees demand holding up, though the report gives no loan or revenue figures.

General Motors files 8-K on listing standards and bylaw change
General Motors filed an 8-K covering Item 3.01, which concerns notice of delisting or failure to satisfy a continued listing rule or standard, Item 5.03 on amendments to articles of incorporation or bylaws or a change in fiscal year, and Item 7.01 Regulation FD disclosure. The filing summary does not explain the substance behind those items.
Why it matters. Item 3.01 and Item 5.03 are corporate-structure disclosures rather than earnings news, and the reason could be routine; the detail sits in the filing exhibits, not the summary. Our prior coverage put GM's Q3 2026 revenue at $50.0B (+2.9%) with EPS $3.73.

Vertiv says it completed an acquisition
Vertiv Holdings filed an 8-K under Item 2.01, the item used to report completion of an acquisition or disposition of assets, along with a Regulation FD disclosure. The filing summary does not name the target or state the price.
Why it matters. Vertiv supplies power and cooling equipment used in data centers, so deals it closes may expand that capacity, but nothing in the filing summary describes what was bought. Our prior coverage showed Vertiv Q2 2026 revenue of $3.3B (+24.1%) and EPS $1.27.
