Boeing wins Navy jet deal; Jabil posts results – Market Brief, Sep 30, 2026
Published Sep 30, 2026
Boeing shares rose after the U.S. Navy picked it for a next-generation fighter, Jabil filed quarterly results, and the SEC charged WhatsApp investment scams.
Takeaway: Two company stories led the day: Boeing's selection by the U.S. Navy to develop its next fighter jet, and Jabil's quarterly results filing with the SEC. Regulators were also busy, with the SEC charging entities behind investment scams run through messaging apps and banking agencies publishing resolution-plan feedback for 15 large banks.
Boeing picked by U.S. Navy for next-generation fighter jet
MarketWatch reported that the U.S. Navy selected Boeing to develop its next-generation fighter jet, and that Boeing shares rose close to 3% in premarket trading on Wednesday. The report said the company had been at risk of losing all fighter-jet production.
Why it matters. A military development contract can give a manufacturer years of work, and the share move suggests investors read the decision as removing a risk to Boeing's defense business. Boeing's latest quarterly analysis on our site showed revenue of $24.6B, up 8.0%, with EPS of -$0.67.

Jabil files quarterly results with the SEC
Jabil submitted an 8-K filing containing its results of operations and financial condition, along with supporting exhibits. The filing itself does not disclose the figures in the item text.
Why it matters. An 8-K under Item 2.02 is the form companies use to make an earnings release official. Readers can compare whatever the release shows with the contract manufacturer's last reported quarter, which on our site showed revenue of $8.8B, up 11.8%, and EPS of $2.59, up 27.6%.

SEC charges entities over $15 million in messaging-app investment scams
The SEC said it charged multiple entities, likely run by people based overseas, with defrauding hundreds of retail investors, many in the United States, in schemes that used WhatsApp and other platforms to build trust with victims. The agency put the total at at least $15 million.
Why it matters. The case shows how solicitations that arrive through chat apps are being treated as securities fraud, and it may prompt more small investors to check whether the person pitching an investment is registered.

Regulators publish resolution plan feedback for 15 banks
The Federal Reserve and partner agencies released feedback letters on the resolution plans of 15 banking organizations.
Why it matters. A resolution plan, often called a living will, is a bank's own blueprint for how it could be wound down without taxpayer support. Public feedback letters show which weaknesses supervisors want fixed, and may mean follow-up work for the banks named in them.

Citi turns negative on Moderna as company files 8-K
MarketWatch reported that Citi analysts told investors to sell Moderna, arguing that revenue and profit forecasts do not support the share price after gains of more than 600%. Separately, Moderna filed an 8-K covering an officer or director change, compensation arrangements and a Regulation FD disclosure.
Why it matters. The gap between a stock's move and the cash a company is expected to generate is a recurring source of disagreement among analysts. Moderna's latest quarter on our site showed revenue of $145M, up 2.1%, with EPS of -$1.97.

Beijing says it will respond if the EU restricts Chinese firms
China's Commerce Ministry said the country must respond firmly if the European Union imposes restrictions on Chinese businesses or products, according to a CNBC translation. In a separate report, CNBC said China's securities regulator has set three new criteria for humanoid robot startups seeking stock listings, which few if any current candidates meet.
Why it matters. Trade friction between China and the EU could affect companies with supply chains or sales in both regions, and tighter listing rules may slow how quickly robotics startups raise money on Chinese exchanges.
